Terms of use

These terms apply to MasterBar, the app, and to masterbar.app. MasterBar is made by Sjoerd Huissoon in the Netherlands, under the name SYIRD. You find the company details on the Legal page. By installing or using MasterBar you agree to these terms.

Your licence

You don't buy MasterBar itself, you get a licence to use it. You may install MasterBar on the Macs you use yourself and use it for any music you make, personal or commercial. What you make with it is entirely yours.

You may not sell, rent or pass on MasterBar or a licence, share your licence with other people, or remove the copyright notices. You may not take MasterBar apart or change it, except where the law allows you to anyway.

Free during the beta

MasterBar is free while it is in beta. Everyone who starts using it during the beta keeps it free, for good, also once there is a paid version.

Buying MasterBar

Once MasterBar is for sale, our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle sells you the licence, takes care of the payment, the invoice and the sales tax, and handles returns. Paddle's buyer terms apply to the purchase. How refunds work is on the Refunds page.

What MasterBar changes on your Mac

To follow Live, MasterBar installs a small helper in the Remote Scripts folder of Live's User Library and selects it as a Control Surface in Live's settings. Before it changes Live's settings file, it keeps a copy of that file next to it, named Preferences.cfg.before-masterbar.

To undo this, set the MasterBar Control Surface to None in Live's settings and delete the MasterBar folder from the Remote Scripts folder.

MasterBar checks for new versions and installs them itself, as described in the privacy statement.

Warranty and liability

MasterBar is made with care and its meters are tested against the EBU test signals. Still, no software is free of faults, and we can't promise that MasterBar works with every future version of macOS or Live. Keep backups of your work, as you would with any software.

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damage such as lost work or lost income, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for MasterBar. This does not limit our liability for intent or gross negligence, and it does not take away any rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country.

Ableton

MasterBar is an independent app made to work with Ableton Live. It is not made, endorsed or supported by Ableton. Questions about MasterBar go to us, not to Ableton.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for instance when the paid version arrives. The date at the top shows when they last changed. A change never takes away the free licence of beta users.

Law

Dutch law applies to these terms. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
